During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, when businesses were
shutting down and uncertainty loomed, I had an idea—to create jobs for my
employees while bringing a unique experience to people. That’s how the Red Sauna
was born—a mobile sauna built inside a Russian van, designed to bring warmth and
relaxation to the most breathtaking locations in Mongolia. From Idea to Reality
With my team, we transformed an ordinary van into a fully functional sauna that
could accommodate 6–8 people at a time.
The goal was simple: to take this sauna
to the most picturesque spots—by rivers, lakes, and deep in the forests—allowing
people to enjoy the contrast of heat and Mongolia’s rugged, icy landscapes.
Though sauna culture in Mongolia is still developing, more and more people have
started embracing it in recent years. Our Red Sauna quickly attracted
adventurers, locals, and travelers eager for a new kind of relaxation. Over the
past five years, it has served hundreds of people, offering them an
unforgettable blend of nature, tradition, and wellness.
Why "Red" Sauna?
Interestingly, the sauna was never meant to be red! Originally, I had envisioned
it in orange, but due to a color code error during the painting process, it
turned out red instead. Rather than changing it, I embraced the mishap and
officially named it the Red Sauna, a name that has since become synonymous with
adventure and resilience.
Challenges and Triumphs Our journey with the Red Sauna
hasn’t been without its challenges. During our first TV feature, we faced a
major setback—our generator wasn’t strong enough to sustain the sauna's
9-kilowatt heat output. In a last-minute improvisation, we heated the stones on
a gas stove to keep the sauna running, determined not to disappoint the
reporters. That experience taught us a valuable lesson, and soon after, we
upgraded to a powerful generator, ensuring smooth and efficient operation.
Today, our sauna heats up to 100°C, offering visitors a truly exhilarating
experience. Imagine sitting in the comforting heat, then stepping outside into
Mongolia’s brutal winter, where temperatures drop to -30 to -35°C in January.
For many, this contrast is both terrifying and thrilling, making it an adventure
in itself. The Health Benefits of Sauna and Ice Water Swimming Sauna bathing,
especially when combined with winter ice swimming, offers numerous health
benefits that go beyond relaxation. The intense heat of the sauna helps improve
blood circulation, reduce muscle tension, and detoxify the body through
sweating, while the sudden exposure to icy water strengthens the immune system,
boosts metabolism, and increases endorphin levels, leaving people feeling
refreshed and energized. In Mongolia’s extreme winter, this contrast between the
sauna’s 100°C heat and the subzero temperatures outside enhances mental
resilience, improves cardiovascular health, and even promotes better sleep. Many
visitors describe the experience as a natural stress reliever, providing a rush
of adrenaline followed by a deep sense of calm. Additionally, the practice has
been linked to increased cold tolerance, improved respiratory function, and
overall physical endurance. Whether you're looking to challenge yourself,
embrace an ancient wellness tradition, or simply enjoy the thrill of alternating
between fire and ice, the Red Sauna offers a one-of-a-kind adventure that
revitalizes both body and mind. A Social Media Sensation In recent years, the
Red Sauna has gained popularity not just for its unique concept, but also as a
hot spot for social media enthusiasts. Many visitors now come to experience the
sauna and capture stunning photos, standing against the snowy backdrop, steam
rising from their skin, as they brave the icy cold. If you're ever in Mongolia
and looking for an unforgettable experience that blends adventure, wellness, and
breathtaking scenery, the Red Sauna is waiting for you. Follow our journey and
